Thanksgiving Day is two weeks away, and we at Daddy Pete’s Plant Pleaser want to say how thankful we are to all of you for using our products and for allowing us to share our blog with you each month. We love to help you grow…and we are blessed when you allow us to help you farm with Daddy Pete’s products!
For this month’s reminders, November is still a great month to plant fruit bushes and fruit trees (such as apples, blackberries, blueberries, figs, nectarines, peaches, pears, persimmons, plums, strawberries); shade trees; shrubs; and border evergreen trees. Daddy Pete’s Planting Mix is an excellent growing medium for all of these items. If you need to amend your existing soil for planting, we recommend Daddy Pete’s Composted Cow Manure, Daddy Pete’s Kickin’ Chickin, Daddy Pete’s Lawn & Garden Soil, or Daddy Pete’s Mushroom Compost. Use our Daddy Pete’s Raised Bed Mix to refresh your raised beds in preparation for spring; and don’t forget our Daddy Pete Mulches for all of your mulching jobs. To help keep your animals warm, Daddy Pete’s Sawdust is an excellent, dry bedding for dogs, horses, goats, and other livestock animals.
November is also a wonderful season for gathering with family and friends to share a meal together. Once again, for our November recipes, we are focusing on a Thanksgiving meal. We have found some recipes that will make use of some of the items you have harvested in your gardens, raised beds, or patio containers this year. If you have frozen or canned fruits and vegetables, they will work great in these recipes.
For breakfast we have an Easy Make-Ahead Breakfast Casserole and a Croissant Breakfast Casserole. If you would like some appetizers while you prepare the main meal, you can try a Turkey Veggie Tray; Mini Butternut Squash Tarts; and Sparkling Apple Cider Punch.
For a light salad before the main meal, try a Shredded Brussels Sprout Bacon Salad with Warm Cider Vinaigrette.
For your main, traditional Thanksgiving meal, here are some great recipe options: a Roasted Turkey Breast; a Maple Glazed Ham; Apple Pecan Stuffing; Roasted Carrots with Candied Pecan & Goat Cheese; Maple-Pecan Roasted Sweet Potatoes; Roasted Garlic Mascarpone Mashed Potatoes; Green Beans and Bacon; Easy Holiday Broccoli Casserole; and a Soft Dinner Roll Recipe. For dessert, we have 2 options: Pumpkin Pie and Puff Pastry Apple Turnovers. If you have leftovers—we suggest: Leftover Turkey Chili and Thanksgiving Sliders with Holiday Leftovers.
If you are making plans to watch the Thanksgiving Day parades or ballgames on TV, here are some snack ideas for munching on while you watch: Black Bean and Corn Salsa; a Football Charcuterie Board for Game Day; Cream Cheese Veggie Pinwheels; and Cowboy Cookies.
If Thanksgiving weekend takes you outdoors, remember that November is a great month for pruning deciduous trees, planting spring bulbs, amending beds for spring planting, or refreshing raised beds. For these projects, we recommend using Daddy Pete’s Composted Cow Manure, Daddy Pete’s Lawn & Garden Soil, Daddy Pete’s Mushroom Compost, or Daddy Pete’s Planting Mix. Also, while you are off from work, don’t forget to do maintenance on your gardening tools and to service your gas-operated gardening equipment. In addition, this is a good time to purchase your seeds for next spring and to start a gardening journal for next year.
